During this professional day, three round-table discussions combining research, artistic creation, mediation and cultural communication will address three digital devices that are as popular with amateurs as they are with cultural institutions: video, podcasts and immersive environments.
Somewhere between independent and institutional production, they are giving rise to new uses and new prescription methods, and are in the process of making their mark on cultural mediation. Do they bring other speakers into the picture, and what narratives do they produce? Are they really renewing our perception of art? How are institutions using these tools? From audience to visitor, do they generate greater commitment? Are they new ways of accessing art for audiences unfamiliar with cultural institutions?

Podcasts, voices and paths to art?
Thanks to their apparent ease of creation and listening, podcasts have become a widespread medium. The art world is explored by amateurs, the media and cultural institutions alike, through the medium of social issues. However, the discoverability and accessibility of these productions depend on a number of factors linked to the means of distribution and the skills of the users: do podcasts enable new audiences to be reached, or are they aimed at a well-informed audience? As mediation tools, what experience of the work do they offer? Do they bring out new voices?

Immersive devices are all the rage in museums and among the general public. Spectacular, interactive and fun, they promise a new cultural experience. From collective immersion to individual experiences in scripted spaces, whether virtual or physical, how are the artistic and educational fields of action of these devices shaped? Which formats are the most relevant today? What do the first studies of audiences for these devices show?

Amateur video: a tool for cultural democratization?
The profusion of online tutorials and videos on multiple subjects has transformed the way we learn. The "Apprendre par la bande" research project, led by Dominique Pasquier (CNRS, CERLIS) and of collective od researchers, proposes to measure and analyse private uses of amateur videos on the Internet, with the aim of disseminating knowledge or demonstrating know-how. This research topic is here extended to cultural mediation. Does video content on art, produced outside cultural institutions, make it possible to address audiences unfamiliar with cultural institutions? Does their success depend on compliance with social networking codes, institutional funding, or production and distribution by a major media outlet? Are they now an integral part of museum communication and mediation strategies? What impact do they have on audiences?

The multiplicity of social networks punctuates our daily lives: real, virtual or imagined images. What credibility should we give to this information? How should we read and interpret it? The Centre Pompidou invites young people from Studio 13/16 to question the veracity of these images, between construction, alteration and reality.
Alongside artists Morgane Ely, Esther Bouquet, Florian Viel and Martin Adolfsson (Minutiae), the Centre Pompidou invites young people to question their relationship with images, avatars, web iconography and the lifespan of images. Studio 13/16 becomes a playground between the real and the virtual.
Esther Bouquet is an artist, researcher and graphic designer, and a graduate of the Ecole Supérieur d'Art et Design de Saint-Etienne. Her work highlights the dysfunctions, power structures and sometimes even the absurdity of technologies that have profoundly transformed the way we live, work, communicate and dream, while at the same time questioning the human element in them.
